To jigger or not to jigger.....

" Make my drink strong", "What do you need that for, don't you know how to make drinks?"....If I had a dollar for every time a guest said that to me or another bartender, I could probably buy a house in Buckhead. Jiggers are tools we use to measure every ingredient in a cocktail, from jack and coke, to long island, to the cocktails you create, it's all recipes with a measuring cup. I personally don't use it for Jack and cokes, vodka tonics, blah, blah, blah, because my pour is spot on, however....cocktails, especially with fresh juices, I always use a jigger. I think it has an air of class and professionalism. It takes a few more seconds to use but can make or break a cocktail. So as a bartender, how do you combat the next guest negative comment and still maintain your professional image as you work? I always assure guest that me and my staff using a jigger is to ensure that no matter who made their drink and when they came in their drink will be exactly the same every time, it's to make sure your cocktail is balanced, it's to provide you with the best experience..... what happens when people complain about how long it takes....these are hand crafted cocktails, I promise it's worth the wait, lol
Still in motion, Keyatta
